Pretty good (and decent ) guide to cleaning up a Windows computer by @SwiftOnSecurity
Cleaning and optimizing a Windows computer safely
here the intro
This is a guide to maintenance for Windows 7 and higher. It will also remove many viruses and repair their damage. These procedures can help machines that are several years old. If your computer is a business machine, please ask your IT department first.
All these tasks have been performed by me or my scripts across tens, hundreds, or over a thousand computers. You can read my qualifications here.
A very comprehensive, detailed and straight to the point guide.
So sure I kind of disagree with such things as "Java is not needed for any modern reason other than obscure software and people who install Minecraft mods." and "The only reason to have Flash installed is if the user insists on using Firefox. Otherwise, uninstall it."
in the "19.) Update Flash, Adobe Reader, and uninstall Java" part, but I can understand that would be the general advice to gives to non-developers, but I would still argue that many "normal users" would still want to have Flash installed on Windows 8/10 just to play games.
That said, all the advices and programs mentioned are pretty solid.
It's just sad that a user had to go through all this shit to get a stable and secure system.
Also, if you are into building software for users it can help test things like
"what happen if the user has full UAC, does my software still works?"
